Historians of technology can consider how the telephone shaped standardization in areas such as medicine/audiometry and disability, and interacted with other technologies.
Located in the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre
The Telephone Historical Centre in Edmonton is a museum dedicated to preserving the history of telecommunications in Edmonton. Established by retired employees of Edmonton D TEL in 1987, it opened on December 3rd 1987 at Old Strathcona’s former telephone exchange building before moving its location in 2004 and is open year-round for both self-guided tours as well as guided group tours.
This museum houses Canada’s only collection of antique telephones and telecom equipment. Additionally, there is an interactive exhibit which provides visitors with hands-on displays to learn about telecommunications technology as well as an outstanding multi-media theatre show.
Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre Museum offers an exciting experience for families. Additionally, its facility can serve as the perfect setting for weddings, receptions, trade shows and other functions – and its friendly and helpful staff is happy to answer any queries that you might have!
